Providing Flexibility with your Parking Permit

Cross parking allows certain Boise State permit holders to park outside their assigned permit zone during specific and off-peak times. This flexibility helps support evening activities, meetings, and other university business across campus without requiring an additional permit.

Cross-Parking Eligibility

What’s Covered?

Cross parking is available only to the following permit holders:

  • Commuter permit holders
  • Reserve permit holders
  • Garage permit holders

These individuals may cross park in Commuter and Reserve surface lots only, during approved hours and events.

What’s not Covered?

  • Resident zone permit holders are not eligible for cross parking.
  • Garage permit holders cannot cross park in other garages.
  • Cross-parking does not authorize any overnight parking. Vehicles must be removed from all non-resident lots by 12 a.m. (midnight).

When Is Cross Parking Allowed?

Cross parking is permitted:

  • Monday–Friday: from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. (Midnight)
  • Saturday–Sunday: all day until 12 a.m. (Midnight)
  • When explicitly communicated as an exception for large university/special events.
  • During intersession times (All university breaks and holidays, excluding May – July)

When Might You Use Cross Parking?

You may benefit from cross parking if you:

  • Are attending an evening class, meeting, or event outside your normal parking zone
  • Need to visit another department or building after your regular work hours
  • Are working late or supporting an after-hours campus activity
  • Participate in weekend university events or academic sessions

Where Is Cross Parking Not Allowed?

Even during cross parking hours, parking is not permitted in the following areas:

  • Parking garages (unless that is your assigned garage)
  • Resident zone lots
  • B-Plaza lots
  • Pay-by-Plate or metered stalls
  • Any reserved or restricted spaces marked for specific use

During Campus Events

Please note that cross parking may at times be temporarily restricted, or potentially offered in non-peak times to support major events or activities happening on campus. Event parking advisories will be communicated in advance through various campus channels.
