Trips Policies

Eligibility

Trips are only available to Boise State University students.

Extended Trip Registration

No online registration is available for Extended Trips.
All participants are required to follow these steps one week BEFORE the first pre-trip meeting.

  1. Pick up the Extended Trip Health & Waiver Form from the Outdoor Rental Center.
  2. Take a Extended Trip Health & Waiver Form and have it signed by a physician. It can be a primary physician or you can go to the Boise State Health Center.
  3. Schedule an appointment to have a 15-minute chat with Coordinator of the OP to review trip logistics and expectations. Contact: Jordan Frank- jordanfrank@boisestate.edu

After following the above steps, participants registering for an extended trip typically have the option of paying a $100.00 deposit at the time of registration with the remaining balance due by 1st pre-trip meeting.

Refunds and Cancellations

Trips are non-refundable. The cost is only refundable if the trip is canceled by the Outdoor Program. A refund for the total cost of the trip can be granted to the student account when a participant cancels their participation if:

  1. Participant cancels their enrollment at least two weeks prior to the registration deadline (at least three weeks apply for trips longer than three days).
  2. Participant cancels their enrollment less than two weeks prior to registration deadline and the trip receives full participation (at least three weeks apply for trips longer than three days).

The Outdoor Program reserves the right to cancel the trip due to insufficient registrations, inclement weather or other unforeseeable circumstances. If such cancellation is necessary, the participant will be issued a full refund.

The only exception to this policy is if our office is presented with an authorized absence from the Dean of Students office or a note from a doctor.

Mandatory Pre-trip Meetings

All trip participants are required to attend all scheduled pre-trip meetings. Participants who do not attend the pre-trip meeting for the trip they are registered for will forfeit their spot on the trip and will not be eligible for a refund. Pre-trip meetings are an essential part of the trip to start building the group experience and connection.
Meetings are held at 9:00 pm the Tuesday or Wednesday of the week of the trip, unless otherwise noted, in the REC Classroom located on the second floor.

Medical, Health, and Fitness

Medical Insurance

Boise State University cannot be held responsible for any injury, property loss or damaged equipment while participating in an Outdoor Program activity.
Participants are individually responsible for their personal medical expenses. For your personal protection, sickness and accident insurance is recommended.

Health Concerns

All participants will be required to complete a Health & Waiver Form and return it to the Outdoor Rental Center by the registration date.
Trip Leaders are medically trained to respond to emergencies in the wilderness. They will carry first aid kits at all times.  However, these are intended for emergency use only, so please bring along any medication or treatment materials that you use regularly such as aspirin, band-aids, prescription medications, elastic wraps, etc.  Please be sure to address current health issues to a Trip Leader so they are aware of any particular needs or special requirements that may be needed to accommodate.

Physical Fitness

All trips require varying degrees of physical fitness. Please take the trip rating seriously. We are not qualified to evaluate your fitness level so you must evaluate your fitness level as appropriate for any given trip. If you are unsure of your physical condition, you should consult with a physician before the trip.

Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms

University policy does not allow during the trip the use of alcohol, illegal substances and/or smoking (or use of tobacco products). It is prohibited to carry firearms during trips.

Any participant found breaking this policy will be removed from the trip at the participant’s expense.  Individuals using alcohol or illegal substances will be subject to action by law enforcement or University Student Conduct Officer.
