Incomplete Contracts

Grading Incompletes

If you assigned a student a grade of Incomplete, enter the Incomplete Contract information. Students can view the contract information. The student will also receive an email notification that you have assigned them a grade of incomplete.

Complete the F Grades and Incompletes Contract page for all students and select Submit. The word “Submitted” will display after the information has saved.

If the student’s EMPL ID does not auto-populate in the Incomplete Contracts section, return to the grade roster and input the Incomplete grade.

When filling out this form only click required fields, or you will get an error message when submitting the form that says “highlighted fields are required” despite no fields being highlighted. If you get that error message, please reload the page and re-enter the information.

Incompletes Policy

Grades

Instructors can enter a grade of I—for incomplete—if both of the following conditions are present:

  • You have completed either 80% of the course or 80% of the coursework.
  • Extenuating circumstances make it impossible for you to complete the course before the end of the semester.

To receive an incomplete, you and your instructor must agree to a contract stipulating the work you must do and the time in which it must be completed for you to receive a grade in the class. If no grade other than incomplete has been assigned one year after the original incomplete, the grade of F will automatically be assigned. As long as you have an incomplete in a class, you may not re-enroll in the class during another semester. You cannot graduate with a grade of I (incomplete) on your record.

Changes in Final Grades

A grade of I can be changed to a W only with the approval of the University Appeals Committee.

Grades of I awarded prior to Fall 2005 for undergraduate courses and prior to Fall 2007 for graduate courses will not automatically change to a grade of F after one year.
