Insights from Research Professor Lee Liberty:

“This was a strike-slip earthquake, located about 5 km southwest of the Long Valley normal fault (that dips east) on an unmapped fault. No reported damage. Remind your backcountry friends of an elevated avalanche risk for the West Valley mountains with continued aftershocks. There was a M2.7 aftershock about 30 minutes ago. And, there is a 5% chance that any earthquake is a foreshock to a larger event.”
