Research Summary

I was born and raised in Idaho and have had the wonderful opportunity to learn more about the state throughout various research projects. Generally, I possess a broad range of research interests related to sustainability and environmental topics. My current research deals with engaging diverse groups of community members and stakeholders in order to assess and holistically address community resilience strengths and/or gaps. Past research of mine focused on youth mental health and the ways in which community-engaged prevention can play a pivotal role in supporting the mental health of adolescents.

Apart from my formal academic research, I am also a creative writer of various genres. I’m fascinated by the effectiveness that works of fiction can have on disseminating science and academic research to a broader audience. I believe that storytelling is a fundamental aspect of learning, regardless of the subject, and is greatly under-utilized in today’s society.

Collaboration Interests

I am strongly supportive of cross-discipline collaboration whenever and wherever possible. All industries and places of work have their own “silos” that occur, limiting their potential reach and effectiveness. A wonderful book relevant to this topic is called Range, by David Epstein.
