Limited Submission Notice: Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) Phase 1 – FY2024

Summary:

The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) program supports the establishment and development of innovative biomedical research centers at Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible institutions through awards for three sequential five-year phases. The purpose of the COBRE Phase 1 award is to build capacity in an area of biomedical research through the establishment of a center of excellence that helps develop a critical mass of investigators who are able to compete effectively for independent research funding and improve infrastructure in the center’s area of research.

Award:

$1.5 million in annual direct costs, excluding consortium facilities and administrative (F&A) costs for 5 years.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

One (1) application per institution are permitted.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, Principal Investigators (PIs) must first submit a one- to two-page white paper to preaward@boisestate.edu by October 16, 2023.

Your white paper should include:

  • PI, Cores and Core Leads
  • COBRE Theme and Concept
  • Potential Junior Faculty

If selected to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement, and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this grant program.

Key Submission Dates:

  • 10/16/2023 – White paper due to preaward@boisestate.edu. We encourage you to cc your Dean for visibility as well.
  • 11/1/2023 – Anticipated date Internal Awardees Notified
  • 1/23/2024 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • 1/30/2024 – Full proposal due to NIH
