Limited Submission Notice: NSF Expanding Capacity in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (ExpandQISE), Track 2

Summary:

The Expanding Capacity in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (ExpandQISE) program aims to increase research capacity and broaden participation in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) and related disciplines through the creation of a diversified investment portfolio in research and education that will lead to scientific, engineering and technological breakthroughs, while securing a talent pipeline in a field where workforce needs of industry, government and academia continue to outgrow the available talent. The program helps build and maintain a close connection between new efforts and existing impactful work in research, research training, education, outreach, and broadening participation done at the existing QISE Centers such as, for example but not limited to NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institutes, DOE National Research Centers, NSF Quantum Foundries, or leading QISE research Institutions, while creating and nurturing necessary critical mass at Institutions not yet fully involved in QISE.

Award:

Track 2 Awards – Up to $5,000,000 per award for a duration of up to 5 years.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

Up to two (2) Track 2 proposals per lead institution are allowed.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program.

For such approval, Principal Investigators must first submit a Notice of Interest to limitedsubmissions@boisestate.edu by 4 pm on January 31, 2024.

**If necessary, a further white paper round may be required**

Key Submission Dates:

  • January 31, 2024 by 4 pm – Notice of Interest due to limitedsubmissions@boisestate.edu
  • February 7, 2024 – Anticipated date applicants will be notified of approval to advance toward Letter of Intent Submission
  • March 5, 2024 – Letter of Intent materials due to OSP
  • March 8, 2024 – Letter of Intent due to NSF
  • March 25, 2024 – All final proposal documents due to OSP
  • April 1, 2024 – Full proposal due to NSF

Important Note on Sponsor Requirements:

Submission of a Letter of Intent is required for Track 2 proposals.
