A quick reminder to step outside (and take your employee ID with you)
Most of us know the basics when it comes to Boise State benefits: health insurance, dental, retirement savings, and so on. But for those working on campus, there’s a whole other category of perks that are easy to forget: the kind that lives right outside your office door.
Let’s start with location.
Boise State sits in the heart of downtown, as we know, right along the Boise River Greenbelt. So, let’s take a closer look at these benefits. A short walk over the footbridge (the one you’ve been meaning to cross daily) leads directly to Julia Davis Park. It’s one of the city’s most beautiful green spaces, and it’s practically part of our campus.
A quick loop through the park is an easy way to reset your brain mid-day. Walk to the rose garden, catch a glimpse of the giraffe at Zoo Boise (yes, you really can see one over the fence), or just take a quiet lap along the river. If you’re planning a walking meeting or a solo brainstorming session, it’s an ideal backdrop. The Zoo also offers meeting places and special rates for non-profit groups.
Better yet — bring your team somewhere new. The Boise Art Museum (BAM), also located in Julia Davis Park, offers free admission to Boise State employees with their ID cards. They also have meeting rooms you can reserve in advance; a great option when you want to get out of the usual four walls and spark some fresh thinking.
Also nearby is Ann Morrison Park, a great open space for a walk-and-talk or just a few quiet minutes under the trees. And if you’re looking for creative inspiration, The Cabin is right around the corner, Boise’s other home for literary events and workshops.
On campus or online, don’t forget about a few other great benefits:
- Employees get one free ticket per semester to student performances at the Morrison Center , a fantastic way to enjoy the arts and support our students.
- BroncoTech offers employee pricing on computers and accessories, allowing you to pay through interest-free payroll deductions.
- The Bronco Shop often runs promotions and special discount days. Keep an eye out if you’re shopping for Bronco gear or gifts.

It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of tasks, but sometimes, the best use of fifteen minutes is to step outside, change your view, and remind yourself what’s available, just by being part of this community. Do you need a quick reference for all your options? Visit the Benefits at a Glance page for more details.
Boise State offers some unique benefits; you just need to remind yourself to utilize them (though some of us frequently do). You’re surrounded by places that make work life inspirational. There are lots of little perks that can bring exercise, joy, creativity, and the occasional giraffe sighting into your day.
