Scholarships

The School of Social Work is proud to offer multiple scholarship opportunities to its students, thanks to our many proud partners and donors. Students who wish to apply for departmental scholarships should complete the Boise State Scholarship Application, overseen by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. The scholarship application deadline is February 15th, and most awards are announced by May 1st.

Keith Gramann Memorial Scholarship

Description

The Keith Gramann Memorial Scholarship was established in 1984 by close friends and family of the late Keith Gramann. Keith was a social worker for the Boise VA Medical Center. Prior to his passing, Keith was asked to teach a special topics course at Boise State on trauma, stress, and loss based on his many years of experience.

Requirements

The Keith Gramann Memorial Scholarship is for senior students ( who are majoring in Social Work (BSW or MSW), who plan to enroll full-time (12 undergraduate credits), have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. We can determine your financial need by the results of your FAFSA (free application for federal student aid).

Lewis (Red) Cotrell Social Work Scholarship Fund

Description

The Lewis (Red) Cotrell Social Work Scholarship Fund was established in 1994. This scholarship seeks to provide support to students studying towards a degree in social work who are either American Indian or have a background working within the American Indian community. The Cotrell Family, who was instrumental in the establishment of this scholarship, named the fund in honor of their father.

Requirements

The Maxi Lewis (Red) Cotrell Social Work Scholarship Fund is for junior, senior, and graduate students who are majoring in Social Work (BSW or MSW), who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The applicant must submit a brief essay of 300 words or fewer describing their background and their history of work within the American Indian community.

Milt and Maxine Idaho Society for Clinical Social Work Endowed Scholarship

Description

The Milt and Maxine Idaho Society for Clinical Social Work Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004. Milt Klein LCSW
was the director of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in the ‘70s and founding president of the Idaho Society for Clinical Social Work. He and his wife were partners in private practice for many years. The fund benefits graduate students enrolled full-time at Boise State in the School of Social Work.

Irene Wilcox Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Description

The Irene Wilcox Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004 in honor of the late Irene Wilcox. Irene was the first clinical social worker in the state of Idaho and the founding chair of Boise State’s Social Work Department. She was instrumental in getting the Idaho Legislature to pass 18 bills regarding child welfare. She also helped establish the first mental health clinic in Boise where patients were seen without charge.

The Irene Wilcox Memorial Scholarship is for students who are in the Social Work program (BSW or MSW), who plan to enroll full-time (12 undergraduate credits, 9 graduate credits), who have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Dan Huff Memorial Scholarship Fund in Social Work

Description

The Dan Huff Memorial Scholarship Fund in Social Work was established in 2011 to honor the memory of long-time social work professor, Dan Huff. Dan was one of the school’s very first professors and an important fixture within the department and the community for over 40 years. His skill as an educator and mentor was greatly valued and appreciated by the decades of students who learned under his tutelage.

Troy and Georgia Potter Scholarship for the School of Social Work

Description

The Troy and Georgia Potter Scholarship for the School of Social Work was established in November 2017. Troy and Georgia Potter spent their lives in ministry and service to those in need. While they did not lead lives of privilege themselves, they took joy in graciously giving to others. They were loving, compassionate, and hospitable to all they knew. They were devoted to their family and consistently made sacrifices so their children and grandchildren could have opportunities they never had. The Donors established this scholarship in their honor to assist students pursuing a social work career supporting vulnerable people in need of empowerment, compassion, and support.

Requirements

The Troy and Georgia Potter Scholarship for the School of Social Work is for advanced year graduate students who are pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) who plan to enroll at least part-time (5 graduate credits), and have a minimum 3.3 GPA.

Raymond Mullenax Social Work Endowed Scholarship

Description

The Raymond Mullenax Social Work Endowed Scholarship was established in May 2018 by Raymond Mullenax, a Clinical Associate Professor for the School of Social Work. The Donor has chosen to support Master of Social Work students who are enrolled in the Boise State main campus MSW program. The Donor created this scholarship as a way to give back to students seeking to make a difference with clients through the profession of social work. By providing financial assistance through this scholarship, he hopes to assist other MSW students in their pursuit of education and future careers as social workers.
