Curriculum Workflow Approval

Creating and Submitting Proposals

Any Boise State University faculty or staff are able to submit proposals to add or change existing curricular records through the Kuali Curriculum Management. Before submitting a proposal the changes should be vetted by the appropriate academic unit’s administrator.

Department or Program Review

Department/school chair ensure the proposal is complete.

College, Division, or School Review

Typically, the Associate Dean and the Curriculum Committee reviews the proposal and either approve or send back to the department/school for revision.

The Dean reviews for final college approval.

UCC or Graduate Council Review

Library Resources Verification Review

The Dean of the University Libraries will review program and emphasis proposals to ensure library resources are covered.

Review Types

Full Review

Program Form and Emphasis Form proposals: 

  • All proposals initiated in the CM’s Program Form. Includes creating new programs, changes to major requirements and program admission requirements.
  • Proposals will be reviewed in a committee meeting at the university level.
  • Requires the presence of the department/program representative at the committee meeting.
  • A quorum is required for the proposal to be voted on and reviewed with guidance from ex officio members of the committee.

Consent Item Review

Course Form proposals: 

  • All proposals initiated in the CM’s Course Form. Includes changes to existing courses and creating new courses.
  • Proposals will be reviewed online by committee members at the university level. It may be determined in some cases that the course proposal requires a full review during a committee meeting with department/program representatives present.
  • Department/program representatives will be included in the online discussion of the proposal to answer questions as needed.
  • A quorum is required for the proposal to be voted on and reviewed with guidance from ex officio members of the committee. Voting is done online via the CM system.

Chair Review

Course Form proposals:

Proposals initiated in the CM’s Course Form only require committee chair approval at the university level if they are limited to the following changes: 

  • Deleting a course
  • Semester offered 
  • Course credit/contact/lab hours that do not affect degree requirements 
  • Cross-listing 
  • Course title or description changes for the following reasons: 
    • Grammatical
    • Repeatability (e.g., including/excluding language similar to: May be repeated for credit.)
    • Grading basis (e.g., from Graded to Pass/Fail) 

Does not require department/program representative presence at the committee meeting. 

Proposals will be decided via chair of the committee with guidance from ex officio members of the committee.
