American Civil Liberties Union Club of Boise State University

1991-2000

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Club of Boise was founded to establish a dialogue about censorship and citizens’ rights in America. They sponsored the local organization Concerned Citizens for Police Accountability after multiple Boise residents were killed in officer-involved shootings in 1996. Additionally, the group organized presentations and held events about banned books, separation of church and state, and freedom of speech. The stated purposes of the group were to:

    • “Educate the public, and especially the student body of Boise State University, regarding civil liberties and the United States Constitution.”
    • “Work to preserve the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution.”
