Gene Harris Jazz Festival on Campus April 1-2

The Boise State University Department of Music will present the 18th annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival on Wednesday-Thursday, April 1-2, in the Boise State University Student Union.

The festival features student jazz bands from Idaho and surrounding states, the Boise State Jazz Ensemble and the Gene Harris Festival Superband. The festival is founded upon jazz educational activities, supported by a great lineup of jazz artists, educator-adjudicators and clinicians.

This year’s headline guest artist is David Liebman, jazz master saxophonist, composer and educator. He has performed, recorded and toured with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, John Scofield, John Abercrombie and many more, Liebman is the recipient of the NEA Masters of Jazz Award, the highest honor given in American Jazz, as well as being consistently listed in the top three for soprano saxophone in the Downbeat Critics poll since 1973.

The Superband comprises Boise-area professional musicians and guest artists from around the country.

Student performances are free. All single day passes for professional performances are $15 online and at the door. Proceeds support scholarships.
