Congratulations to the Ahsahta Press and editor Janet Holmes for the recent review of Anne Boyer’s “Garments Against Women” in the New York Times Book Review. Boyer’s book was published last March by Ahsahta Press and has been a No. 1 seller on the Small Press Distribution list three times. “Garments Against Women” also has been reviewed by Publishers Weekly, The Boston Review, The Rumpus and The New Statesman, in addition to many others.

NY Times reviewer Maureen McLane noted, “[Boyer] has written a sad, beautiful, passionate book that registers the political economy of literature and of life itself. This sounds dry, abstract: It’s not. Boyer’s book moves as if the contents of a brokenhearted country song were mediated through the ferocious mind of a Hannah Arendt. Boyer offers a self-portrait of the artist in a time of ‘indentured moods,’ debt collection, chemical spills, amid her attempts at and refusals of writing, sewing and the daily care of herself and her small daughter.”

“This is quite an honor for Ahsahta Press,” English department chair Michelle Payne commented, “and it adds to the growing list of honors the press has received in the past few years, thanks to the editorship of Janet Holmes.”
