The Department of Music will present the Oboe Alumni Recital Celebration, a concert featuring Boise State alumni Amanda Pochatko and Joseph Carrillo, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. The performance will include various works for the oboe, English horn and piano, as well as a new composition written by Carrillo.
Admission for the recital is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and is free for children and Boise State faculty, staff and students with ID. Admittance is also free for any non-Boise State students with ID. Tickets are available for purchase at the door.
Pochatko graduated from Boise State with a bachelor’s degree in music education in 2000 before going on to earn a master’s degree in oboe performance and music theory from Michigan State University. Carrillo also graduated from Boise State with a bachelor’s degree in music performance in 2000. From there he left Boise for Los Angeles and established himself as a composer for film, short film, animated series and concert music.
The highlight of the alumni recital will be the premiere performance of Carrillo’s piece, “Unraveling the Night.” The piece was written specifically for this event and features four oboes, three English horns and percussion.
The recital performances also will include other Boise State alumni: pianist Jerry Jensen, who received a bachelor of music in performance; Cassandra Crowell McManamon, who received a bachelor of music in performance; Caitlin Lapinel, who received a bachelor of arts in music; and Jessie Fullmer Brown, who attended Boise State during the 2006-2007 academic year and received a bachelor of music from Brigham Young University. Also performing will be Boise State junior Evan Tegley and Boise State professor Jeanne Belfy.
All concert proceeds fund the Boise State University music scholarship program.
