Join the Boise State music department and Boise Bengali Association for an evening of Indian classical music at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
Tickets are $12 in advance and available at India Foods (6020 W. Fairview Ave.) or $15 at the door.
Brandon McIntosh is a celebrated sarod player and proponent of the Senia Shahjahanpur gharana and disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. McIntosh has spent the last 10 years developing a unique way of teaching Indian classical music on the piano and has co-founded the Seattle Raga Institute to teach this technique. He has completed a bachelors degree in percussion and a masters degree in music composition while also studying sarod for nearly 20 years. He has traveled the world and performed in Russia, France, Belgium and India as well as throughout the United States.
Kuntal Roy is an accomplished tabla player and senior disciple of the legendary tabla maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh of the Farukhabad Gharana. He has played with many fusion and world music artists and continues to compose his own music as well. Melody, clarity and precision are some of the characteristics of Roy’s playing.
Srivani Jade is a talented vocalist based in Seattle. She initially studied Khayal with Sharad Gadre in the Gwalior style and has studied in the Kirana style with Pandit Parameshwar Hegde since 2006. Jade has five solo albums and several grants, artist residencies and awards, including a Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship Award and an NEA grant for her musical composition work on the existential love poetry of Meera Bai. She has travelled extensively and has received critical acclaim for her performances.
