Seth Ashley, associate professor of journalism and media studies in the Department of Communication, will facilitate a discussion on Jan. 17 at Boise City Hall to help consumers of media build their media literacy, analyze information, as well as spot hoaxes and fake news.
Ashley teaches and serves as faculty adviser for student media. His research centers on the role of media in democratic society with work in media literacy, media sociology and media policy.
Other panelists include Melissa Davlin, host of Idaho Public Television’s “Idaho Reports;” Julie B. Lane, assistant professor in the Department of Communication; Jeffrey Lyons, a researcher in American politics, public opinion, and more; Bill Manny, a local news editor at the Idaho Statesman; and Jessica Roberts, an assistant professor of journalism and media studies in the Department of Communication.
The panel, part of the city’s ongoing lecture series hosted by the Boise Department of Arts and History, takes place at 6 p.m., Jan. 17 in the Boise City Hall Council Chambers. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
