The Boise State University Ceramics Program will host a workshop and lecture with Jonathan Keep, a United Kingdom-based potter and leader in digital printing technologies for clay.
The workshop is from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, and 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, March 8. Keep’s lecture will take place from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. Events take place in Room 150 of the Liberal Arts Building.
The workshop is free for Boise State students, faculty and staff, as well as high school students. Organizers ask that others make a small donation at the door. No registration is required. Attendees can attend all, or some of the workshop. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Keep’s diverse studio practice ranges from wheel-thrown domestic ware to vessel forms generated from computer code. These sculptural pots are inspired by nature, and are printed in clay using a 3D printer built by Keep. Keep has shared his knowledge with potters and ceramic artists in workshops around the world, as well as through open-source plans and tutorials on his website: keep-art.co.uk.
Keep received his MA from the Royal College of Art in 2002. Recent exhibitions include La Sculpture Ceramique Expression Contemporaine at the Centre Ceramique in Giroussens, France. He recently was invited to exhibit his work in Ceramics and its Dimensions: Shaping the Future as part of the European Ceramics and its Dimensions project which examines the change that has occurred in the European ceramics traditions during the last 300 years. This show was first staged in Finland and has since traveled throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Other recent notable exhibitions include: The First Central China International Ceramics Biennale, Henan Museum, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, Elements of Art and Science Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria, Craft: Objects in Flux, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Taiwan Ceramic Biennial – Ceramics Now: Art, Design and Digital Materiality, Yingge Ceramic Museum, Taipei.
The Boise State University Ceramics Program Clay and Fire Sale and the Modern Hotel are supporting Keep’s visit.
