Achievement and Success

The Student Achievement Measure (SAM) provides a comprehensive picture of student progress on their path to earnings a college degree or certificate. As compared to the limitations of typical graduation rate measures, SAM reports more outcomes for more students.

Graduate Student Reports

In collaboration with the Graduate College, the Office of IE developed a graduate success model to examine the progression and graduation of graduate students. The report below includes breakouts for students in masters, education specialist (post masters), and doctoral programs. Department and program-level reports are provided to the Graduate College, which then distributes the reports to the relevant academic leaders and provides support regarding use of the data.

In these reports “Success” is defined as a student either 1) completing a degree within X years OR 2) are officially enrolled X years later (i.e., the student is officially enrolled for at least one term during the Xth year after their cohort year). Students who meet either criteria are counted in the numerator at a given time-point and a percentage is calculated by dividing this total by the cohort size. Degree completions are cumulative across time points; students that were placed in the numerator due to a degree completion in time point A are also included in the numerator for time point B, and time point C, etc. Cumulative degree completions are also presented as a separate column in each time point for comparison; this is labeled as graduation rate.
