Research Interests/Activities

His research integrates concepts from public information campaigns, stakeholder contestation, and risk perception literature’s, especially as these are relevant to complex environmental issues.

His current work focuses on verbal performance in a variety of contexts such as sports and society, and messaging via media platforms to inform the public about science and natural resources. One project is focused on use of pictograms and a standard signage for water contaminants.

His publications appear in the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Human Ecology Review, Communication Theory, Management Communication Quarterly and Sustainability Science (among others). His applied work includes projects such as assessment of internal and external communication capacities for an Ebola-like incident, and public information in native fish restoration. These generally involve development of public information materials, facilitating meetings and related outreach efforts.
