W.M. Keck Facilities and Equipment

The Keck Lab comprises three adjoining state-of-the-art biomaterial laboratory rooms with a total capacity of ~1,800 ft², including one room set up as a shared instrumentation lab for optical spectrometers and other characterization equipment. The end biomaterials labs have an additional ~300 ft² dedicated to a pair of tissue culture rooms and a cold room (each ~100 ft²). Pertinent capabilities include: lab bench space, four 5-ft fume hoods, and equipment for synthesis and purification of dyes; synthesis, characterization, and amplification of nucleic acid constructs; nucleic acid construct separation and purification, including PAGE and agarose gel electrophoresis; steady state absorption and emission (fluorescence) spectrometry; and nucleic acid storage.
