Reminder: Register events and activities involving minors

The university considers the safety and well-being of youth program participants to be important. As part of its commitment to provide an open and safe campus environment for all, including minors (those under the age of 18), the university needs to identify all programs, events and activities that serve, or otherwise engage, youth. The Office of Institutional Compliance and Ethics would like to remind faculty and staff to register any program or activity involving minors at least 14 days before the event to ensure compliance with the university’s Protection of Minors Policy. Both university and non-university programs can register events by completing the form on the compliance website.

As a reminder, all individuals participating or interacting with minors in university programs or activities must successfully complete a required background verification and annual minor abuse prevention training at least 48 hours prior to the start of the program or activity. Non-university programs must ensure their employees, volunteers and representatives complete background verifications and training that meet or exceed the requirements for university programs.

Administrative Fees

The minors on campus administrative fee will also be charged for programs and activities involving minors according to the schedule below. The fee helps ensure appropriate staffing for the Minors on Campus Program in fulfillment of its responsibility to provide safe spaces for youth on campus. More information on the fee can be found on the Institutional Compliance and Ethics website.

Administrative Fee Structure for University Programs

For programs in which the university accepts custody and control of minors:

  • $5 per registrant for day-use only programs with a registration fee of $50 or more.
  • 10% of the registration fee for day-use only programs with a registration fee under $50 per registrant (for example, a registration fee of $40 would incur an additional $4 administrative fee).
  • $10 per registrant for any overnight program.

Administrative Fee Structure for Non-University Programs

For programs held on campus-owned or -controlled properties in which third-party organizations accept custody and control of minors:

  • $5 per registrant for all day-use only programs, regardless of registration fee.
  • $10 per registrant for all overnight programs.
