Program Information

Pursuant to Boise State University Policy 12060 (Protection of Minors in University and Third-Party Programs, all University and Third-Party Programs that assume custody and control over minors participating in the program or activity must register the event with the Office of Institutional Compliance and Ethics by submitting the appropriate form below. The Office of Compliance and Ethics maintains an online database of University and Third-Party Programs to ensure the safety and protection of minors in compliance with University Policy 12060.

Definitions from Policy 12060

University Program

Any program or activity, on or off campus, that is university-authorized and substantially organized and/or supervised by a university employee within the context of the employee’s university employment, including but not limited to those programs or activities hosted by a university office, department, departmental student organization, and other university units. Examples of University Programs include, but are not limited to athletic camps, academic camps, laboratory experience, student club events, lessons, workshops, competitions, and clinics.

Examples of University Programs that are not subject to this policy include, but are not limited to:

  • Official University Programs for its students who are duly admitted, regularly enrolled, or accepted for enrollment in a credit-bearing program at Boise State University, even if some may be minors who are under the age of 18.
  • A program or activity open to the general public
  • Orientation and campus tour/visitation programs
  • Social functions that may be attended by minors accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • Student teaching practicums

Third-Party Program

A program or activity involving minor children operated by a Third Party on university-owned or controlled property. Most Third-Party Programs are subject to the full requirements of this policy.

 Third-Party Programs that are exempt from this policy include, but are not limited to:

  • A program or activity at which it is required or expected that a minor be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • A program or activity open to the general public
  • Field trips supervised by a minor participant’s school or organization
  • Social functions that may be attended by minors accompanied by a parent or guardian
