Free Microsoft 365

Eligible Boise State students, faculty and staff can download Microsoft 365 software free through the Microsoft 365 for Students program.

This software is intended for use on personal computers.

Details

Eligibility

Students

Students must be enrolled and registered for classes at Boise State. Registration status is verified on the tenth day of each semester.

The Microsoft 365 license for students expires 30 days following graduation, or when you are no longer actively enrolled and registered for classes at Boise State.

Once your license expires, you will be able to view Microsoft 365 files using the software and will not be able to edit those files. You do not lose access to the software over the summer or winter breaks if you are enrolled for the following semester.

Employees

Faculty and staff must be current employees in order to download and use Microsoft 365 applications through the Microsoft 365 for Students program.

Attention Mac users!

If you are prompted during installation to sign into a Microsoft 365 app or provide a valid product key, select “sign into an existing Microsoft 365 subscription” and enter your email address as @boisestate.edu, not @u.boisestate.edu.

For example, use “studentname@boisestate.edu.”

How to download Microsoft 365 and Office apps

  1. If you already have a version of Office on your computer, be sure to uninstall that software before installing the Boise State version.
  2. Browse to the Microsoft Office portal.
  3. If you are not already signed in to your Boise State account, you will be prompted to sign in before continuing.
  4. Under Office apps & devices, click Install Office.
  5. The installer will download to your computer. Open the downloaded file to launch the installer, then follow the prompts to complete the installation.
