How to Apply

Step 1 – Apply to Boise State University

  • In the Semester and Major section of the application, indicate you are interested in taking courses “Entirely through online delivery.”
  • In the Semester and Major section of the application, select your academic area of interest from the major drop-down list.

Please note: Students are required to meet with a student success coach before being admitted to the program.

Step 2 – Request Official Transcripts

Contact the registrar’s offices of all the universities and colleges that you’ve attended to obtain transcripts that can be emailed to Boise State. You can also get a copy for yourself to reference.

If you have served in the military, please make sure to send your Joint Services Transcript and/or Community College of the Air Force transcript.

Request official transcript(s) from all previous colleges and universities you attended.

Step 3 – Talk With Your Student Success Coach

Your student success coach will help you review previous coursework and determine if you’re ready to get started in the strategic communications online bachelor’s degree courses.

Application Instructions for Strategic Communications Admission

Classes and Scheduling

The online Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications, Project Emphasis is a 120-credit program that includes the following:

  • Required Courses – 18 credits.
  • Emphasis Areas – 9 credits. Take at least 9 credits from one of the emphasis areas. You will work with your advisor based on your goals and credit needs to determine which courses you need.
  • STRATCOM courses – 6 credits. Take at least 6 credits from the STRATCOM courses. You will work with your advisor based on your goals and credit needs to determine which courses you need.
  • University Foundations Courses – 37 credits. University Foundations courses are required to earn a bachelor’s degree from Boise State. These foundation courses may be met through transfer coursework or will be incorporated into your degree plan at Boise State.
  • Electives – 50 credits to reach 120 total credits.

Costs and Scholarships

The project emphasis is only available to students who are taking classes 100% online. Students who take classes 100% online pay $395 per credit during the 2025-26 academic year. Estimated book costs for the entire program equal $1,000. Future academic year per-credit fees may vary slightly and are finalized each May.

Notice to Boise State, State of Idaho and other Idaho higher education employees: Fee waivers do not apply to this program. For more information on reciprocal fee agreements, please visit the HR website.
