CAES Energy Policy Institute spearheads groundbreaking national consortium

We are thrilled to share that the CAES Energy Policy Institute is spearheading a groundbreaking national consortium focused on consent-based siting. This initiative is geared towards enhancing our understanding of community perspectives and implementing best practices for critical infrastructure, with a special focus on managing spent nuclear fuel.

This initiative is backed by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. The primary goal is to provide valuable recommendations for process improvements that will positively impact our communities.

It’s important to note that, in this two-year effort, consortia involved are not required to select a specific location or community for siting. This reflects a collaborative and comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges associated with critical infrastructure.

This journey works toward a more informed and community-centric approach to consent-based siting so that we can pave the way for positive changes and advancements in our critical infrastructure practices.
