The Division of Research and Economic Development (DRED) is committed to cultivating an environment where education through research, scholarly endeavor and creative activity thrives. We provide comprehensive support for faculty, staff and student research and creative activity, guide research strategic directions, manage the university’s intellectual property portfolio, facilitate relationships with stakeholders, and lead economic development and innovation.


Lead the university’s student-centered research enterprise, advancing quality research and creative activity, scholarship and innovative pursuits.


We will uphold the university values through promotion of collaboration across the research enterprise, building inclusive partnerships, both internally and externally.


Strategic Plan 2023-2027

Objective I: Operationalize and scale research support infrastructure within and beyond the Division of Research and Economic Development.

Objective II: Create a culture where our people are proud to work at Boise State University, are thriving in their professional roles, and are contributing to the Division of Research and Economic Development mission.

Objective III: Grow and diversify a strategic portfolio that advances funded research and creative activity to support innovation capacity of the state, region, and nation .
