Our Team

RMC staff have expertise in the teaching and learning of mathematics across a wide range of contexts and topics. We’re committed to supporting teachers’ work to improve student achievement in mathematics.

  • Michele Carney

    RMC Director / Associate Professor

    Michele is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Boise State University. She worked as a teacher, math coach, district math coordinator, and professional development specialist for several years prior to starting her role at Boise State. Her expertise is in supporting K-12 mathematics teachers in instruction and assessment practices and has led several large-scale projects focused on improving mathematics education at the classroom level. A specific aspect of her research involves examining how assessment validity is conceptualized and expressed in mathematics education. She currently serves as the director of the Regional Math Center which provides mathematics professional development to over 5000 K-12 educators in Idaho and Associate Interim Dean for the College of Education.

  • Giselle Isbell, MPA

    Regional Mathematics Specialist

    Giselle has over thirty years in the classroom and experience with supporting school leaders. In her role as Regional Math Specialist, she works with educators in various roles, including teaching and developing the Teaching Mathematical Thinking courses, assisting with the Math Taking Action Collaborative, and working with teachers through coaching and assessment cycles.

  • Christa Carver

    Regional Mathematics Specialist

    Christa’s years of experience in education have spanned multiple districts and roles including classroom teacher, reading and math specialist and Title I coach. She is passionate about encouraging and supporting teachers as they work to improve their practice. In her role as a Regional Math Specialist, she instructs the TMT course, facilitates ongoing professional development and coaching in Region 3 schools, and leads the Math Taking Action Collaborative.

    Regional Mathematics Specialist

    Jenny has 20 years of experience in education. She spent 14 years as a classroom teacher and has also worked as a math instructional coach, math consultant, interventionist, and federal programs director. In her role as a Regional Math Specialist, she works with educators in Region 3 by providing Schoolwide Math Support at selected schools, teaching TMT courses and supporting the MathTAC program.

She spent 14 years as a classroom teacher and has also worked as a math instructional coach, math consultant, interventionist, and federal programs director. In her role as a Regional Math Specialist, she works with educators in Region 3 by providing Schoolwide Math Support at selected schools, teaching TMT courses and supporting the MathTAC program.

    Regional Mathematics Specialist

    Sean has been in education for seventeen years, including teaching at the middle and high school level and building administration. He has experience teaching and leading traditional and alternative schools, and has participated in mastery-based educational programs. As a Regional Mathematics Specialist at Boise State, he facilitates TMT courses for educators in Region 4, facilitates customized professional development in K-12 schools, and is working with pilot schools on the innovative High School Mathematics Badging Project in 2022-2023.
