About the Certificate

Certificate in Planning

The Urban Studies and Community Development Program offers a 9-credit hour, fully online undergraduate certificate in Urban Planning. Focused on key skills required of planning professionals, this certificate can complement existing Boise State BA programs including Urban Studies, Environmental Studies and others, as well as serving professionals working in the field.

Certificate courses cultivate skills that planning professionals most hope to see in new graduates and entry-level planners. In Fundamentals of Planning, students will learn the basic underpinnings of community planning while also practicing relevant skills to the planning and planning adjacent profession. This includes technical writing (memos, RFP, grant proposal), zoning map and appropriate land use interpretation and professional speaking. Additional courses build skills in conflict management, data visualization, project management and GIS applications common to urban and regional planning.
