Course Proposals

Are you creating or changing a Foundations of the Discipline course? 

STEP 1: Review our principles, our know-do-become guidance, and the University Learning Outcomes associated with your course. Keep the principles, guidance, and outcomes in mind as you complete an FD Course Design Table Template.

STEP 2: Notify us. Prior to initiating a GEC proposal, let us know about your intentions by contacting UniversityFoundations@boisestate.edu and the GEC member who represents your course category. We may have questions or guidance that will help you strengthen your proposal.

STEP 3: New or redesigned Foundations courses should also be submitted to department and college curriculum committees. With permission from your college curriculum committee:

• Log on to Boise State’s Kuali curriculum management system and create a new proposal following the Registrar’s directions for Foundations Curriculum Changes.
• You will need to upload your completed course design table as part of your Kuali submission: FD Course Design Table Template. Review of new or updated courses will be assigned to the appropriate GEC subcommittee. See the deadlines listed below.

Are you creating or changing a Finishing Foundations course? 

STEP 1: Visit our Finishing Foundations Toolkit site to learn more about our FF guidelines and download an FF proposal form.

STEP 2: Notify Beret Norman, current chair of the General Education Committee’s FF subcommittee, about your intention to submit. She may have questions or guidance that will help you strengthen your proposal.

STEP 4: With permission from your college curriculum committee:

• Log on to Boise State’s Kuali curriculum management system and create a new proposal following the Registrar’s directions for Foundations Curriculum Changes:
• You will need to upload a completed FF proposal form to your Kuali submission.: FF Proposal Form. Review of new or updated courses will be assigned to the appropriate GEC subcommittee members. See the deadlines listed at the bottom of this page.

Deadlines

GEC Fall Deadline: October 1 (or May 1 for certain FF courses**)
UCC Fall Deadline: November 1 (For Listing in Subsequent Fall Catalog)

GEC Spring Deadline: January 25 (or May 1 for certain FF courses**)
UCC Spring Deadline: February 15 (Unlisted in Subsequent Fall Catalog)

**The GEC deadline for Finishing Foundations is dependent on new or renewing status of the course. The deadlines for new Finishing Foundations courses are the October 1 and January 25 dates above.
