Teaching Apprenticeships: Innovating First-Year Writing TA Preparation In a Pandemic

Ti Macklin, Ph.D., Liberal Arts

About the project

The development of TAs in First Year Writing programs has had to adapt extensively to the challenges provided by the current pandemic. As TAs at Boise State are now required to learn how to teach in online courses, they have become involved in a more direct apprenticeship program with the professor of the First Year Writing program. Dr. Macklin seeks to understand how this apprenticeship has helped TA students and how their understanding of the role of teacher has been formed, as well as how that might differ from more traditional TA programs.
