BOISE STATE HOSTS HIGH SCHOOL ESPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP

BOISE, IDAHO – Boise State Esports is partnering with Idaho Central Credit Union and the Idaho Army National Guard to host the Idaho High School Esports Championship. Over 35 different high school teams from across Idaho are traveling to downtown Boise for the chance to be crowned state champions. Teams are competing in games such as Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, and Valorant.

The tournament takes place at the Boise State Esports Arena in downtown Boise on the corner of Front & Capitol, across the street from Grove Plaza.  The event is run during weekend of May 12 & 13. Members of the general public, including media, Boise State students, and friends and family of the competitors are encouraged to attend. Admittance is free during the event.

For many competitors, this event is their first time competing on stage for a live audience. Furthermore, the event is their biggest platform for recruitment and potential scholarship offers at the collegiate level. Boise State Esports regularly monitors events such as these to find potential recruits for the Esports program.

Dr. Chris Haskell and Dr. Brett Shelton founded Boise State Esports in 2017. Boise State Esports started out with one exhibition match and eventually grew into a dedicated arena in downtown Boise. During six years of operation, Boise State Esports has competed in over 1,400 matches and won multiple national championships. Additionally, the Boise State Esports Arena has hosted the CECC West Regionals and the Mountain West Esports Championships.
