LGBTQIA+ Commitment Card

Photo of Commitment CardHelp us create a more inclusive campus for LGBTQIA+ community members

We’re working to shift our campus climate to be more inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and related identities (LGBTQIA+) and we need your support. The Commitment Card program will promote awareness of identities, familiarity with resources and invite campus members to reflect on and implement more inclusive practices.

The Gender Equity Center has shifted away from using the word “ally”. There can be a lot of debate around the word “ally” due to different ideas as to what an ally is or does. Because of this, the Gender Equity Center prefers to use language similar to “those supporting the LGBTQIA+ community”. That being said, many resources or workshops that the Gender Equity shares may use the word “ally”.

What can I do?

The 4′ x 5′ Commitment Cards list all of our  LGBTQIA+ focused programs. Attend any of the listed programs, plus “choose your own adventure” on two additional opportunities to earn stickers for your card. As your card fills up, post it somewhere visible so others can recognize your active commitment to learning about and advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Where do I start?

Get your commitment card and stickers at Gender Equity events that focus on the LGBTQIA+ community. Would you like a card and/or sticker for a workshop you participated in during the last year? Let us know!

Programs listed on the commitment card are offered by the Gender Equity Center each year and include:

  • Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Identities
  • Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community
  • Trans Identities
  • What’s in the +?
  • Write-in options: Attend two LGBTQIA+ focused events on campus and contact a Gender Equity staff member to see if that qualifies

Continued Learning

Creating an inclusive campus doesn’t stop with the Commitment Card program. The Gender Equity Center encourages everyone to continue learning about different opinions, experiences, identities and lifeways outside of the Commitment Card curriculum.

While we have included a number of resources you may use as a starting point, we encourage you to seek additional resources and opportunities for learning.
