History Students presented at Phi Alpha Theta Northwest Regional Conference

History undergraduate students Joe Green, Eric Overzet, and Marnie Raper, and graduate student Dane Johns, attended the Northwest Regional Conference for Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society in Bellingham, Washington, April 8-9, 2016.

Joe Green presented his original research, “‘He Lay as a Thane Should’: The Comitatus in Anglo-Saxon Britain and Beyond”, for a panel on Medieval Battlefields.

Eric Overzet presented “Manifest Destiny and William Walker” for Expansion, Slavery, and the Western Hemisphere.

Marnie Raper presented “Uncovering the Myth of the Passionless Woman in 19th Century
America” as part of a panel on Women, Medicine, and Power in 19th Century America

Dane Johns gave his presentation, “A History of Fire and Ice: The Historical Relevance of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire Series,” for a panel on Witchcraft and Fantasy.

The students were accompanied to Washington by Dr. Raymond Krohn, who chaired a panel entitled, Violence and the Making of Early America.
