Become a Trip Leader
The Trip Leader Training Series 2024 is designed to provide competence, confidence, and the necessary skills for students who are interested in working as trip leaders with the Outdoor Program. This series is open to all Boise State undergraduate and graduate students who want to share their passion for working with people in the outdoors.

Trip Leader TRAINING SERIES
We are educators who develop and positively impact students using the outdoors as our classroom. Here are the steps to be considered for a trip leader position:
- Step One: Apply on Handshake. Applications will open June 1, 2024 until July 24, 2024.
- Step Two: Go to the Group hiring Sessions – July 22nd from 3-5 p.m. Or July 23rd from 3-5 p.m.
- Step Three: Next stage of hiring (Individual Interviews) – TBD
- Step Four: Go on the Outdoor Leadership Training – Backpacking – August 8-13, 2024

The Trips Program offers purposeful and engaging activities intending to provide positive and lifelong experiences and promote participants’ social interaction, self-awareness, personal growth, team-building, and leadership skills. Our core values are inclusion, care,  and excellence
Cost
The series cost is FREE for those accepted. This includes meals, instruction, gear, and transportation. We value your time and energy in the training and ask you to do the same for the Outdoor Program after you finish.
Requirements
Be able to work three consecutive semesters including Summer 2024 for at least 1 month. Key traits in an ideal Trip Leader candidate include a commitment to their development, passion for working with people, a supportive and inclusive attitude, and a sense of adventure to try new things. We are looking for a diverse set of students who have the desire and capacity to become great leaders. We encourage everyone to apply, regardless of outdoor experience.
What will you get from the Training Series and leading trips at the Outdoor Program?
Our Training Series are intended to train you into an effective outdoor leader and educator. Participants will gain transferable leadership skills; such as group development, risk management, and conflict resolution, as well as, all the outdoor-focused skills. This program will expose and help you to develop leadership skills that will benefit you in any job or academic environment.
