Events and Activities

Our State Insurance provides liability coverage to the University for approved student organizations holding On or Off Campus events, provided the event is Authorized, Funded, and Supervised (Faculty/Staff) by the University. Student organizations planning to hold an On-Campus event must do the following:

Provide Risk Management and Insurance (RMI ) with a brief Event Proposal indicating the Purpose of the event and the additional Who, What, When, Where, and How. RMI will review the proposal and make appropriate recommendations.
Provide RMI with a current Certificate of Insurance for any outside organization participating in the event. Please see the Certificate of Insurance tab for additional Details.
- Certificate of Insurance is required from any promoter, band, service or food vendor participating in an On-Campus event.
- Food vendors must provide a copy of a current Permit/License, to dispense food, from the Central District Health Department. The student organization, sponsoring the event, is required to notify Central District Health (208) 327-8597 of the proposed event and participating food vendors prior to the event.

Greek Life

Sororities and Fraternities are excluded from our University State insurance coverage. Greek Organizations are required to carry insurance through their National Charter Organization and must show evidence of such insurance by providing Student Activities and RM&I a current Certificate of Insurance with coverage not less than $1,000,000.00 per occurrence General Liability and $2,000,000.00 aggregate. Additionally, “Boise State and the State of Idaho” must be listed on the certificate as “Additional Insureds.”

PRACTICUM/INTERNSHIP STUDENTS

The state’s definition of a covered Practicum is:

“Means a course of study involving practical application of previously studied theory approved by and under supervision of the covered colleges and universities of the State of Idaho.”

Liability Insurance coverage for qualified Boise State University Practicum Student work related programs must meet certain requirements. To qualify, the following requirements must be met:

The Boise State University student is participating in a Practicum as defined above.
Registered and participating in credit bearing academic or applied technology college courses that requires this training as part of a student’s class credit requirement for graduation.
The Practicum activity (or training) must be approved, supervised and/or reviewed by the class instructor.

“Practicum” and “Internship” are sometimes used interchangeably within the University. These terms are not necessarily interchangeable and can have different meanings. The term “Internship” can mean, a person who is in practical training to learn a specific field. However, it does not have to be related to a required University class credit training activity. Internships can be both paid and unpaid positions and can be considered employees of the training firm.

State Student Practicum liability coverage does not include Practicum student coverage for medical clinical training fields, i.e. nursing, pharmacy, physician assistants, clinical laboratory, occupational therapy, pathology, radiology, etc. This category also excludes pre-medical fields, such as pre-pharmacy, pre-physician, pre-dietetics, pre-physical therapy, etc. In lieu, the University has an individual Student Healthcare liability insurance policy (separate from the State program coverage) for the excluded medical clinical Practicum Students. If contacted by an outside Practicum training program requesting a Certificate of Liability insurance for a practicum student, notify our office,

Renters Insurance

Students personal property is not covered by the University’s insurance program and we recommend that students have personal homeowners insurance to cover them for Property (including Personal), Liability and Medical payments.

Immediately call Public Safety at (208) 426-6911 to make a report for theft and vandalism. If you do experience a loss, we suggest contacting your insurance carrier.
