About Us

    Kara Brascia

    Service-Learning Director

    Duties: Supporting instructors in exploring and implementing service-learning in their courses; leading faculty development and recognition efforts; guiding program strategy; and collaborating across campus to advance community engagement and experiential learning.

    Kara came to Boise State in 2000 from a nationally ranked Service-Learning program at the University of Utah. She brings over twenty-five years of experience consulting with instructors, students, and community partners. Kara earned her bachelor’s degree from Macalester College in Minnesota and her master’s degree in Communication from the University of Utah.

    Educational Development Specialist

    Duties: Integrating service-learning (SL) into online courses, designing SL for courses where students develop their own SL project, developing templates and tools to make managing SL easier for instructors and students, Faculty development in community-engaged learning, connecting with community-engagement initiatives across campus, and brainstorming and designing various types and sizes of community projects with Faculty for all types of courses.

    Elizabeth Gasparini recently joined Boise State’s Center for Teaching and Learning as an Educational Development Specialist for the Service-Learning Program. Elizabeth focuses on supporting instructors  and students in designing service-learning projects and other types of community-focused experiential learning. She earned a Master’s Degree in International Education from Endicott College and has over 25 years of experience as an educator in the fields of Educational Technology and Design as well as integrated Service-Learning.

    Service-Learning Educational Development Specialist

    Duties: Forming, building, and initiating community partnerships; brainstorming and designing service-learning projects; collaborating with other Boise State community-facing programs

    Casey McGee joined the Service-Learning Team in 2023 as an Educational Development Specialist. McGee focuses on developing and supporting community partnerships and projects for Service-Learning courses and collaborating with other Boise State community-facing programs. He earned a Master’s Degree in Community Organizing and has over 15 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations in direct service, program development, and leadership roles, specializing in addressing homelessness through collective impact.

    Service-Learning Graduate Assistant

    Duties: Developing and delivering educational resources, providing professional development opportunities, and supporting capacity-building for community-based organizations.

    Erin is pursuing her master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Boise State University, with Graduate Certificates in LEAD (Leadership in Action) and Organizational Development. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Ohio University and has spent more than a decade in the nonprofit sector, helping strengthen community impact through systems building, leadership, and collaboration. Erin joined the Service-Learning team to connect her passion for leadership with opportunities that create lasting, positive change in the community. When she’s not working or studying, she’s likely traveling somewhere new or soaking up the sun on a body of water.

    Service-Learning Graduate Assistant

    Duties: Service-Learning student marketing & communications; student employment program management

    Molly is pursuing her masters degree in counseling at Boise State University, with a focus on addiction counseling. She completed her undergraduate degree in Physics at Agnes Scott College before spending 15 years in marketing, recruiting, and people-management. Molly’s mission in returning to school – and in joining the Service-Learning team – is to do work that contributes meaningfully and positively to her community here in Boise. When she’s not working or studying she’s usually riding a bike, hiking, or playing with her dog, Tug.

    Duties: Service-Learning promotion, event planning and coordination, office management

    Saige is studying for an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology. Having grown up in northern Idaho, Saige developed a passion for the natural world. She is driven to be a part of making it possible for nature to be enjoyed and appreciated for years to come. Outside of school and work, Saige often spends her time hiking, rock climbing, and enjoying coffee with friends. With this position Saige aims to connect students with experiences that benefit them and the community.

    Duties: Service-Learning promotion, event planning and coordination, office management
