About Genesis Community Health

Genesis Community Health exists to provide primary healthcare, social and spiritual support, to low
income, uninsured individuals in Idaho’s Treasure Valley as an expression of the love of Jesus Christ. Primarily, this happens through the Genesis Community Clinic which provides free medical, dental, and mental healthcare, along with social and spiritual support, to qualifying individuals.

Volunteer Internship Summary

First, the Language Services Provider is responsible to interpret during clinic visits, phone calls, office inquiries, and the like for Spanish speaking patients and to translate clinic documents and emails from English to Spanish. Second, he or she will assist with various administrative duties like scheduling patients, tracking referrals, and other similar tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities
Interpreting and Translating
● Interpret during all visits for Spanish speaking patients
● Provide cultural brokering assistance as needed while interpreting
● Assist staff with communicating messages to patients as needed
● Informally educate other volunteers on cultural issues to consider while providing service
● Translate clinic documents, voicemails, signage, emails, and other items as needed
Administrative Duties
● Schedule patients
● Track referrals
● Answer the phone and patient inquiries at the front desk
● Assist the Medical Clinic Coordinator and/or the Front Office Coordinator as needed

Minimum Qualifications

● Fluent in both written and spoken Spanish
● Bi-cultural competence
● Completion of interpreting courses (community or Boise State)
● Digital fluency
● Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals
● Ability to use an electronic medical record
● Heart to serve the underserved with dignity, respect, and compassion
● Supportive of the Mission of Genesis Community Health
