On September 15th, 2023 Fatima Cornwall (World Languages) and Maria Escobedo presented a session titled “The Effective Utilization of Interpreters in Legal Settings” at the Federal Defender Services of Idaho’s 2023 annual Western All-Star Conference & Confabulation, in Boise, Idaho.
Thee presentation overviewed the federal and state rules governing the appointment of interpreters, the court interpreter certification exams, and the Code of Professional Responsibilities for Interpreters in the Judiciary. Cornwall and Escobedo shared tips and best practices for when working with interpreters, with the 60 plus law practitioners in attendance.
Cornwall and Escobedo are state and federally certified court interpreters, and Boise State University alumnae.
