“COBE is a place where students can go to feel welcomed and supported by professors, other fellow students, and the staff. The COBE Career Services office is an asset to the business building that all students should be taking advantage of. From hosting large career fairs and networking events, to meeting one-on-one with a career specialist, to providing students with helpful resources such as resume paper and the Skype Room, COBE Career Services can help you no matter the scale of help you need. Throughout every meeting I had with Laura, it was apparent that she truly cared about my success and was willing to go above and beyond to ensure I had a contact to speak with at the companies I was interested in. Laura was also able to help me take specific skills I acquired as a data analyst intern at Albertsons Companies and apply them to the current position I was applying for in preparation for interviews and to add to my resume and LinkedIn profile. My advice to other COBE students is to get involved with school programs and internships early in your academic career to guide you into what you want to do in the future. Even if you don’t know exactly what career path you want to pursue, these experiences can enlighten you on what you don’t want to do, which can be just as valuable.”

“The COBE Career Services played a crucial role in my recruiting process. I am especially thankful to Laura for her guidance through the process. Laura was very enthusiastic and very encouraging. She took the time to get to know me and the professional I want to grow into. Consequently, we were able to work together on my resume and cover letter. She also helped me streamline my message, which in turn allowed me to present my authentic self in the recruiting process to the different companies I was interested in at the time. When I first reached out, I didn’t know the different services that are available to students: for instance, the
skype room, or the career closet, where you can borrow a tie just to change things up! All in all I am very grateful and encourage every student to take advantage of the great resource that is the COBE career services. If I had to do anything differently during my time at Boise State, I would reach out to Career Services sooner. I went through the first recruiting season without any guidance and wasn’t successful. Moving into my role at Deloitte, I want to be successful in public accounting as a CPA, so that I can be able to work for/or with an international organization like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in position to make a macro level impact.”

“Going into summer internship recruiting season I had a half finished resume which Brandon helped me format and emphasize key attributes from my past work and studies. This helped me attract application examiners’ attention for internships that I had interest in. My advice to fellow COBE students is to try to get a Fall/Spring internships Junior year. The more experience you have on graduation day the more marketable you’ll be in the job market.”

“Using COBE Career Services during my job/internship search was crucial for my professional success. Laura consistently worked with me to customize my resume and cover letters to build a story that meets each reader’s needs. Sometimes it was incorporating words that were in the job description, and sometimes it was by adding certain elements to my resume that I missed. Working with COBE Career Services gave me incredible confidence during my interviews which proved that I can best meet my employer’s requirements; and the support didn’t stop after receiving an internship, COBE Career Services continued to offer additional support by helping me add my accomplishments to my portfolio, and making my profile better each time. This support not only helped me with receiving three internships, but also an honorary Top 10 Scholar award for the graduating class for the academic year 2018-2019. I am going to be forever grateful for the mentorship I received from COBE Career Services and attribute most of my success to them.”

“COBE Career Services has played a crucial role in helping me acquire valuable internship experiences. Their practical advice paired with a willingness to go above and beyond to assist me has been tremendous throughout the hiring process. By taking advantage of networking events and career fairs, I have been able to connect with potential employers and narrow down my interests. After I graduate, it is my goal to obtain my CFA certification and work for an investment bank. Networking is a major part of your career and everyone who is not utilizing those opportunities are forfeiting a share of their potential success.”

The Career Services team was invaluable in preparing for recruiting season, and I frequently met with them to review my resume and participate in mock interviews. The advice I received helped me stand out as a candidate and gave me the confidence to walk into interviews feeling calm, collected, and prepared to be myself. Their staff also provided a safe environment for me to conduct my job interview in the Skype Room. I am forever grateful for the help I have gotten from COBE Career Services. I am also grateful to have had an internship experience at University Financial Services for two years. My advice to other students is to try different internships throughout college and experience a variety of industries. I am lucky to have had experiences that make saying goodbye to college so hard. But I am thrilled that I get to work for campus and give back to future COBE students!”

“I walked into COBE Career Services unaware of the significant aid they offered students. What I left with was an internship opportunity that would drive me intellectually and help stimulate my post grad life. Taking advantage of COBE’s networking opportunities was instrumental in getting introduced to employers before other applicants and gain fundamental business relationships. I hope to successfully utilize my previous internship experiences to help pave the way to a career that I am passionate about. Looking back, I would have attended more networking events put on by Career Services, as it is never too early to start creating connections!”

I met with my employer at a career services event and made connections with them as well as other companies in attendance. Career Services helped me with my job search and let me use the Skype room for a virtual interview. If there was one thing I would do differently, it would be to get internships as early as possible in my college career. “In all my interactions with the COBE Career Services team, it was clear that they are passionate about helping students achieve their career goals. They were instrumental in helping me obtain my internship which led to a full-time offer. I returned to school with the goal of working in audit at a public accounting firm. I feel fortunate that, upon graduation, I will be able to live out that dream. After graduation, I hope to provide mentorship and advice to other second-degree and nontraditional students who have their own doubts and hesitations about recruiting.”

“COBE Career services played a pivotal role in my growth and ultimate success in the interview process. I participated in mock interviews, resume revisions, and cover letter edits, all of which helped me put my best foot forward. Most importantly, I felt that Career Service’s doors were always open for me to bounce ideas around when charting my next plan of action. It was my frequent sessions with Laura that allowed me to formalize my career/internship aspirations and really pinpoint where I wanted to apply and who I wanted to reach out to. I have visited the Career Service multiple times for my resume, cover letter, and mock interview. I realized that there is always room for improvement. The mock interviews were extremely helpful to me in getting my dream internship. The mock interview really helped me to figure out better ways to market my skills so employers can see the best version of me.  If I could go back, I would start doing all of these sooner, not waited until I started looking for an internship.”

Instrumental to my success was the opportunity to practice. Career Services provided multiple opportunities to learn, engage, and refine my elevator pitch and how I present myself on paper. COBE has provided me an opportunity to learn and gain the tools needed to be successful in the future. It’s my goal to be in a career that I’m passionate about, as well as to be in a place that I can contribute and grow with the business. Learning to reach out, network and go for what you want has been instrumental to my success—there is more to lose by not going for what you want than vice versa! If I were to do anything differently, I would have started earlier. Whether it’s a full time job or an internship, it never hurts to be reaching out and applying to where you want to be.”

“Graduating and getting your big dream job is that thing that you reach for and work toward… But being suddenly faced with it was scary for me. I could go to Laura and all of the people in the Career Center for advice and encouragement. I even went to ask for advice about what I was wearing to interviews! I leaned on Laura and COBE Career Services a lot and ended up with five job offers! The most difficult part of the recruiting process ended up being the decisions I had to make about which job offer to accept. Take every opportunity you can while you are here. COBE does an amazing job of creating clubs and workshops for every major, career path, interest or need that you may have.”
