When Students Stop Engaging

Questions to reflect on when students stop engaging

When students slowly disengage, it can be a cause for concern, but sometimes students are just problem solving on their own. Here are some questions to reflect on:

  1. What kind of of changes have I noticed that are causing concern?
  2. Has the student demonstrated any previous reason to be concerned for their safety? (e.g., disclosure of existing mental health or physical health diagnoses)
  3. What is the goal of my outreach?
  4. At what point do I need to pass this along through an Academic Alert?
