Boise State University College of Education’s conceptual framework, “The Professional Educator,” establishes our shared vision in preparing educators to work effectively in P-12 schools. It provides direction for programs, courses, teaching, candidate performance, scholarship, service, and accountability. Boise State University strives to develop knowledgeable educators who integrate complex roles and dispositions in the service of diverse communities of learners. Believing that all children, adolescents, and adults can learn, educators dedicate themselves to supporting that learning. Using effective approaches that promote high levels of student achievement, educators create environments that prepare learners to be citizens who contribute to a complex world. Educators serve learners as reflective practitioners, scholars and artists, problem solvers, and partners.

In addition, our Instructional Model takes an inquiry stance to teaching and learning through the iterative process of planning, assessment and reflection. The three parts of the Standard Performance Assessment of Teaching (S-PAT), the final performance assessment a teacher candidate completes at the end of the program, aligns with the instructional model. The S-PAT includes Part 1 Unit Plan (planning), Part 2 Assessment Analysis (assessment) and Part 3 Concluding Reflection (reflection).

Teacher Candidate Field Guides and Handbooks

Overview and Purposes

By gaining and reflecting on experiences in schools and communities early in your program, future educators begin the process of becoming Professional Educators.

Each early field experience is intentionally designed to be mutually beneficial to teacher candidates and the schools and communities they serve. These placements are not about “getting hours” but rather, they should be considered invaluable opportunities to serve children in specific and important ways as you continue in your journey to becoming a professional educator.

Early Program Field Experiences Fieldguide

Professionalism is of the utmost importance during your early field experiences. The Field guide contains the following information:

• Boise State Teacher Educations Conceptual Frameworks and Program Overview
• The Idaho Educator Standards towards which you are developing knowledge, skills and dispositions
• Candidate Expectations
• Early Program Field Experience Evaluation form
• Guidelines for students who are demonstrating unsatisfactory work

Adjudication Form

For students in an early field placement an adjudication form is required to be submitted before you can begin your placement.

All students must submit the form below. If you have a criminal record or a violation of the Boise State code of conduct as indicated on the form, you will be directed to the appeal form for criminal record or code violations.
