Congratulations!

We’re thrilled to welcome you to Boise State. Soon you’ll join a community of students from around the world studying at Idaho’s largest and fastest-growing research university.

What Happens Next?

You’ve finished the hard part, but there are a few things you’ll need to do as you prepare to become a Bronco.

Set Up Your my.BoiseState.edu Account

Your myBoiseState account is where you’ll access your student email as well as important academic and financial information. You should set this up as soon as your are admitted to Boise State.

  1. Navigate to reset.boisestate.edu and enter your Boise State username (available in your letter of admission).
  2. Select your personal email address and send an enrollment email to that email address by following the prompts.
  3. Log into your personal email account. Click on the link to establish a passphrase for your Boise State account.
  4. After your passphrase is established, click on the Enrollment tab. You can also add a mobile number if you wish.
  5. Once account enrollment is completed, click the profile icon at the upper right and select ‘Sign Out.’
Prepare Your Financial Documentation

If you will be studying on an F-1 student visa or a J-1 exchange visitor visa, you must submit financial documentation to International Admissions in order to receive your I-20 or DS-2019.

Access Your Financial Documentation Form

Apply for Your Student Visa

We recommend beginning the process of applying for your visa as early as possible to allow enough time to prepare for your first semester at Boise State.

After receiving your I-20 or DS-2019 from Boise State, you’ll need to:

  1. Pay your I-901 SEVIS fee;
  2. Complete your DS-160 visa application and pay the DS-160 fee;
  3. Schedule your visa interview at your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

You can find more information on each of these steps on our Student Visa Information page.

Apply for Scholarships

Did you know that the admissions process is not the only way to secure funding at Boise State?

We recommend that all new students complete and submit the Boise State Scholarship Application to maximize their scholarship possibilities.

Secure Your Housing

Living on campus is convenient and makes it easy to meet new people and get involved at Boise State. If you are considering living on-campus, you should submit a housing application as early as possible. Deadlines and more information on on-campus housing can be found through the Housing Office.

If you decide to live off-campus, we recommend beginning your search with the Off-Campus Housing Marketplace.

Submit Final Official Transcripts

If you were admitted to Boise State using unofficial or in-progress transcripts, you must send us your final, official transcript. We recommend sending this in advance, but you can also submit this at International Student Orientation.

Official transcript policies can be found in your relevant Application Information page.

Undergraduate Students: You will receive information by email about the Virtual Advising process, which will allow you to meet with your advisor and register for your classes before the semester starts.

Plan Your Travels

International students should arrive on campus prior to International Student Orientation. Later arrival may require a deferral of your admission to a future semester.

Prior to traveling, ensure that you have copies of all of your important documents in your carry on luggage so that you’re prepared to enter the U.S. This includes:

  • Passport with visa stamp
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Boise State letter of admission
  • Class schedule

We recommend that you make at least one extra copy of each document just in case.

Flight Considerations

  • Plan to arrive in Boise on the designated arrival days or no later than one day prior to International Student Orientation.
  • Boise Airport (BOI) is located about four miles (10 minutes by car) from campus. Be sure to book your flight to the correct airport.
  • You cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the start date listed on your I-20 or DS-2019.

Getting to Campus

  • There are several options for getting to campus from the airport. Taxis are available outside of the baggage claim area. A typical taxi fare to campus will cost about $15 and it is customary to tip taxi drivers an additional 10-15% of the total fare.
  • Uber and Lyft both operate in Boise. These options will require a smart phone with data access. Fares are typically $10-15. The pickup area for Uber and Lyft is outside of the second floor of the airport.

Hotel Information

  • If you arrive for orientation and have not yet arranged for on- or off-campus housing, you may wish to stay in a local hotel while you finalize your living arrangements. There are many hotels within walking distance of campus and many more just a short bike or taxi ride away from campus.
  • Some hotels will offer a Boise State rate to students and may offer shuttle service to and from the Boise Airport or Boise State’s campus. Please ask about these options when making your reservation.
Prepare Your Finances

Planning your finances in advanced will help you to avoid possible complications after arriving in Boise. Here are a few things to think about prior to your arrival on campus.

  • Tuition. Most international students pay non-resident tuition. Official tuition rates, per credit costs, and Boise State tuition policies can be found on through Financial Services.
  • Fees & Health Insurance. Enrollment in the international student health insurance plan is mandatory for all students studying on F-1 or J-1 visas.
  • Payments. The easiest way to pay your bill is to log onto myBoiseState and make a payment using a credit card. You may also pay your bill at the Payment & Disbursement Center using cash or check. Boise State has partnered with FlyWire to make international payments as simple as possible.
  • Fee Payment Plan. You have the option to pay your fees in three equal installments. More information about payment plans is available through Financial Services.
  • Customs Declaration. If you are carrying $10,000 or more (or its equivalent in foreign currency) when entering the U.S., you must declare this by completing the Customs and Border Protection Declaration Form 6059B. More information is available through CBP.
  • Currency Exchange. We recommend that you exchange at least some of your currency to U.S. dollars in your home country in case currency exchanges are closed when you arrive. Banks in Boise will exchange your currency during regular business hours.
