You’re Almost Home

We’re so glad you’re ready to apply for campus housing. Living on campus is one of the best ways to get the most out of your Boise State experience. On-campus housing is usually in high demand so apply early. Please review our process below before starting your application.

Students who submitted the pre-application will have until March 24 to submit their full application or their timestamp will be voided. At this time, March 17, the First Year Housing Application is now open for all first year students to apply.

Application Dates

2023 – 2024 Academic Year

The Sophomore and Above Housing waitlist application opened on March 7. You can apply for the Sophomore and Above Housing waitlist here.

Pre-applications for the 2023-2024 academic year will open on March 15th for First-Year students on Slate. Apply early for the best chance of getting one of your top community preferences.

First-year students must complete intent to enroll in order to access the pre-application.

Please note that housing is not guaranteed. Assignments are based on the timestamp of the pre-application.

Fall 2023 Housing Application Opening dates

First Year Students: the housing pre-application opens on March 15, 2023 at the following times:

Idaho Residents – 9:00 AM MDT
Out-of-State Residents – 12:00 PM MDT (11:00 AM PDT)

* Students must be admitted to Boise State in order to access the Housing Application.

Summer 2023

The Summer Housing application opening date is March 6, 2023.

Spring 2024

The Spring Housing 2023 Application will open in October for First-year students and Sophomore and Above students. This application is currently closed and will reopen during the Fall 2023 semester.

First Year Application Process

Complete your housing pre-application on March 15. Check your Boise State email for next steps.

Once you receive the link via email to the housing portal, you’ll be asked to:

Electronically sign the academic year license agreement
Select your top 5 communities
Pay $50 nonrefundable application fee*
Pay $100 housing down payment*
Complete the Living Learning Community questions (if you listed an LLC in your community requests)
Contact the Educational Access Center if you need accommodations
Register for renters insurance through GradGuard, a Boise State University partner
Check your Boise State email frequently for important updates

*Your application is not complete until you’ve paid the application fee and housing down payment. If you are under 18 at the time of applying for housing, your parent or guardian will need to verify the application and acknowledgment of the license agreement. They’ll get an email with instructions on how to complete this verification. Please note that you must turn 18 prior to the conclusion of the academic year to be eligible for on-campus housing.

2023-2024 Academic Year

Improve your chances of getting your community request by doing the following:

First-Year Students

Apply early – housing is limited.

List at least 5 communities you would like to live in (you can change your community requests on your application until May)
Complete the Living Learning Community questions

If you receive a community assignment before May, then you’ll have a chance to find a roommate who has been assigned to the same community. Community Assignments are made on a first-come basis. We will first consider your community preferences, then your room/suite-type preference so take time to choose communities with room/suite-types that meet your budget and preference. Use the Bottom Line Estimator to help.

Sophomore and Above Students

Apply early – housing is limited.
List 3 communities you would like to live in. Sophomore and above housing includes:

Honors College
University Suites
Lincoln Townhomes

Spring Semester – New Residents

For students that did not live on-campus in the Fall and are applying for the Spring semester, housing assignments are made on a first-come basis, however, availability may be limited.

The Spring 2024 application will open in October.

*Early arrival is not available for the Spring semester.

Move-In Process

Everything you have done so far leads up to the big event — Move-In!

First-year and sophomore and above students

Move-In for the fall 2023 semester is August 17, 2023. If you plan to arrive on campus before then, you can apply for early arrival.

Move-In for new students for the Spring 2024 semester is the Saturday before spring classes begin.

*Early arrival will not be available for the Spring semester.

Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender-inclusive housing is an option that you can select as a preference when you apply to live on campus.

Gender Inclusive

“Gender Inclusive” housing means that you can be housed with any other student regardless of their gender identity. For example:

If you want to live with a friend who is not the same gender as you, you can both select “Gender Inclusive” housing and match with each other during the roommate matching process.
If you don’t have a roommate preference but would like to live with people of different genders.

Gender Inclusive Housing Assignments

There are a lot of reasons why you may choose gender-inclusive housing as an option, but here are some things to remember:

Gender-inclusive housing is offered, as space is available, in several of our suite-style residence halls including the Honors College and Sawtooth Hall, Lincoln Townhomes, University Square, and University Suites. Please contact our office if these halls don’t meet your budget but you are interested in gender-inclusive housing.
As with all of our housing options, for the best chance of getting your housing preference, it’s important to apply early
If we don’t have space for all applicants who request gender-inclusive housing, we will house people who request gender-inclusive housing according to the gender identity listed on their application
In order to be assigned to gender-inclusive housing all students in the unit must have requested “Gender Inclusive” as a preference on the housing application

Eligibility to Live on Campus

In order to live on campus, you must be admitted to the university and enrolled in 12 or more credits by the time you physically move into campus housing. First priority goes to full-time students. First-year students must complete intent to enroll in order to access the application.

Additional eligibility requirements apply as follows:

First-Year Students

Chaffee, Driscoll, Honors College and Sawtooth, Keiser, Morrison, Taylor, Selway Suites, and University Square

You must meet the following criteria:

19 years old or younger
Graduated high school the spring term before you plan to live on campus

Sophomore and Above

Aspen, Cedar, Hawthorne, Juniper, Tamarack, and Spruce Townhomes, Honors College, and University Suites

You must meet one of the following criteria:

Sophomore class standing (26 credits+), OR
At least 20 years of age at the time of move-in, OR
Successfully lived on campus for at least one year, OR
Graduated high school at least one year prior to move-in,

Other situations will be looked at on a limited, individual basis. If you don’t meet these requirements but feel you have extenuating circumstances, contact Housing and Residence Life for consideration.
