Interdisciplinary Professional Studies Frequently Asked Questions

What is interdisciplinary professional studies?

The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Professional Studies is an online degree completion program that allows you to apply your professional experience and previously earned college credits toward finishing your bachelor’s degree. The program is designed for students who want to customize their degree to fit their needs and goals. Students can create an individualized degree plan and choose one or more concentrations to match their interests, or they can select an emphasis area in community and social impact, cyber operations management or design and media management. How does credit transfer work in the interdisciplinary professional studies program?

Transferable credits can come from many sources:

  • Community college credit. Up to 80 credits can be applied to your degree plan if earned at one of the following participating institutions: College of Eastern Idaho, College of Western Idaho, College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College. Credits earned at other community colleges are also accepted, though the transfer process may not be as direct. We encourage you to check out the transfer equivalency system to see how your previous credits may transfer.
  • Credits from accredited institutions: Past credits earned at Boise State University (or another accredited institution) can be applied toward your degree plan.
  • Technical credit. Students may transfer up to 12 technical education credits from technical or trade programs as well as prior university credits.
  • Credit for prior learning. Up to 15 credits from a combination of professional work experience, technical training, certifications, licenses and community service can be applied toward your degree plan. These items will be presented as a portfolio and the credit total will be determined by faculty evaluation.

A student success coach can work with you to discuss your potential transfer credits.
