Comp Time, Overtime, Shift Differential and On Call Leave

How are Comp Time and Overtime accrued?

Visit Payroll Resources for information about Comp (Compensatory) Time and Overtime.

What is Shift Differential?

Shift differential refers to the additional pay a benefit eligible hourly staff member receives if at least 50% of their normal hours occur between 6:00pm and 7:00am, Monday through Sunday. Supervisors are responsible for indicating whether or not an employee is eligible for shift pay as part of the hiring process.

Shift Differential is equal to the combination of their Worked Hours, Paid Holidays, and Absence Hours (with the exception of Leave Without Pay). These employees are also eligible to earn Shift Differential Overtime for Overtime, Holiday Worked, and Holiday Accrued Hours. Bronco Hub uses formulas to automatically calculate Shift Differential and Shift Differential Overtime, if applicable. The Shift Differential calculations occur for employees who are Shift Eligible.

Any eligible employee is paid an hour of Shift Differential Pay for each applicable hour, or portion of an hour.  These employees are also paid the normal overtime for worked hours—that is handled in an Overtime Rule.

Eligible employees should enter their time cards as normal; all Shift Differential calculations will occur during time card processing.

What is On Call Leave?

Due to the nature and scope of activities at the university, certain employees may be required to be “On-Call,” available and prepared to report to work outside of normal working hours. Visit Section 13.3 On-Call Time of the Compensation (Policy 7650) for more details about On Call Leave.
