Scholarships are available to students completing the Basque Language certificates, the Cultural Studies Certificate, and the Basque Studies Minor. Students enrolled in Basque language and culture courses (also cross-listed as Hist, Comm, Anth, Soc, Pols, etc.) should consider applying for these opportunities.

Nere Lete Translates Basque Public Television Documentaries
In the spring of 2023, Nere Lete, Professor of Basque in the World Languages Department at Boise State University, completed translations of a select number of documentaries. These translations were then used to create English, Spanish, and Basque subtitles for each of the chosen documentaries, allowing us to make our content accessible to a wider audience. Professor Lete’s work was made possible with support from Boise State University, Elhuyar Fundazioa, Dr. Igor Leturia, Etxepare Euskal Institutua and the Eloise Garmendia Bieter Chair in Basque Studies.

The Department of World Languages encourages students who wish to acquire proficiency at a “professional” level to spend time in a region whose language they are studying. Programs available through the Office of Global Learning Opportunities give students a chance to master a language and learn more about culture and customs, often while studying at foreign universities and living with local families.
