AI in Teaching and Learning

Introduction

As AI increasingly impacts higher education, the CTL is building spaces for faculty to learn together, experiment, and share what works. Here you’ll find resources and opportunities to explore AI’s evolving role in teaching and learning. Discover upcoming events, faculty communities, and individual consultations to help you engage with AI in ways that are creative, ethical, and effectively aligned with your teaching goals.

Fall 2025 Faculty Development Events

FYW + Gen AI Community of Practice (Ongoing)

FYW + Gen AI is an instructor-led community of practice that brings together first-year writing instructors to explore how generative AI is reshaping writing, teaching, and learning. Participants share teaching experiences, course materials, ideas, and questions, contributing to a growing collection of resources for the broader FYW program.

The Opposite of Cheating Book Circle (Spring 2026)

Co-sponsored by the CTL and the College of Innovation and Design, this book circle focuses on David A. Rettinger and Tricia Bertram Gallant’s The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI. This opportunity offers a space for faculty to connect with colleagues across campus to share challenges, insights, and strategies for teaching with integrity in a rapidly changing educational landscape impacted by AI. Consultations

Want to use AI in your teaching?  Wondering what would be the best ways to help your students learn using AI tools? The CTL has gathered resources and developed training events on AI that you might find helpful.

If you are teaching an in-person or hybrid course and want to discuss using AI tools, please request a consultation with a Center for Teaching and Learning staff member today. We would love to hear from you!

Gen AI FLC

This fall, the CTL, in collaboration with the Research Computing Department (OIT) and the Department of Computer Science, is hosting a Faculty Learning Community centered on an internal language model and assessments. The participants will:

Explore opportunities to use machine learning tools to develop/refine instructional strategies

  • Gain insights about the use of AI in education
  • Explore AI applications for teaching and learning

Participants will implement their assessment in their spring courses, share reflections and provide feedback to each other on this process. We also plan on sharing overall ideas with the larger campus community. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Christina Nava at christinanava@boisestate.edu.
