American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus (AFLAC) offers guaranteed renewable supplemental insurance plans.
Home and Auto Insurance
Boise State employees can access special group rates for auto and homeowners insurance through Farmers GroupSelect, Liberty Mutual, and Travelers.
Retirement
Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho
The Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI) is a mandatory retirement plan for classified staff and temporary hourly employees who work 20 hours or more per week for five consecutive months.
Optional Retirement Plan
The Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) is a mandatory retirement plan for faculty and non-faculty professional staff at Boise State administered by Fidelity Investments.
Supplemental Retirement Accounts
Supplemental Retirement Plans (SRA) are available to employees to help build retirement security through additional savings.
Time Away from Work
Annual Vacation Leave
Annual Vacation Leave accrual depends on employment classification, and all employees must obtain supervisor approval and report their absences through Bronco Hub per university policy. Once the maximum accrual limit is reached, further accrual will stop until the balance is reduced, but any accrued leave under the maximum limit will roll over from year to year.

- Faculty Members
- Faculty with academic year appointments under 12 months do not accrue annual leave, as they are expected to take leave during academic breaks.
- 12-month: 0.0924 per hour which equates to approximately 24 days of vacation leave per year with a maximum limit of 240 hours.
- Professional Staff
- Professional employees with academic year appointments under 12 months do not accrue annual leave, as they are expected to take leave during academic breaks.

Bereavement Leave
Boise State employees may take time off for bereavement using any available accrued leave. Refer to the bereavement policy.
Holiday Leave
Boise State provides 12 paid holidays to all employees. To review specific dates, refer to the payroll and holiday website.
Sick Leave
Sick Leave accrues at a rate of 0.04615 hours for every hour worked (approximately 3.7 hours biweekly) for full-time employees.
Disability Benefits
Boise State employees are automatically covered by short and long-term disability insurance through the State of Idaho, providing income during periods of non-work-related injury or illness.
Parental Leave
Boise State offers up to eight weeks of paid Parental Leave for all eligible employees, allowing them to take time off to bond as a new family while maintaining their employment status.
Faculty Workload Release Plan
Boise State provides the Faculty Workload Release Plan. This benefit provides eight weeks (concurrent) of paid time off related to birth or adoption. This applies to all full-time faculty who teach, including tenured and tenure-track faculty, librarians, clinical faculty, research faculty, lecturers, and instructors. However, it does not apply to non-teaching administrative faculty. This benefit is separate from FMLA and Paid Parental Leave.
Family and Medical Leave Act
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for the birth or adoption of a child; to care for a seriously ill family member; or for a serious illness.
Workers’ Compensation
Workers’ Compensation is a no-fault insurance program that offers medical treatment and partial wage replacement for employees who experience injuries or illnesses related to their job.
Wellness
Employee Assistance Program
ComPsych GuidanceResources provides free, confidential short-term counseling services for employees and their families through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Health Matters Wellness Program
The Health Matters State Employee Wellness Program is managed through the State of Idaho Division of Human Resources. Health Matters delivers health and wellness-related resources, information, challenges, and targeted initiatives to state of Idaho employees. All state employees are welcome and encouraged to participate in Health Matters programming, regardless of their enrollment in state medical benefits.
Lactation Nursing Rooms and Breaks
Boise State University supports new nursing parents on campus by providing fifteen private lactation break rooms dedicated to their needs.

Academic Impressions
Boise State’s partnership with Academic Impressions gives all faculty, staff, and students free access to a comprehensive library of professional development resources.
Albertsons Library
Boise State employees can check out books from Albertsons Library with their Bronco Card for a loan period of up to one year.
Athletics
Boise State employees are eligible for a 20% discount on football and basketball season tickets. To claim the discount, contact the Athletic Ticket Office by phone or email.
Boise Art Museum
Boise State employees receive free admission to the Boise Art Museum by presenting a valid Boise State identification card (Bronco Card).
Boise Parking and Transportation Discounts
Boise State, in partnership with Valley Regional Transit’s City Go Program, offers discounted parking for employees at four downtown garages, along with free bike parking, carpool and vanpool options, and convenient transit connections. Employees can also receive a free Valley Regional Transit bus pass sticker for their Bronco Card by visiting the Student Union Information Desk.
Bronco Express
Bronco Express is a shipping center located next to the Bronco Shop in the Student Union Building. Express serves as a shipping resource for students, staff, faculty, and the general public, and offers domestic shipping with USPS, FedEx, and UPS, and international shipping via USPS. They also offer shipping supplies like boxes, foam wrap, stamps, and packing tape.
BroncoTEC
BroncoTEC is Boise State’s boutique technology store in the Bronco Shop, offering employees access to a variety of Apple, Microsoft, and Dell computers, tablets, and accessories at educational discounts. Payroll deduction is available for benefit-eligible employees with over one year of service, but it is offered only in-store, not online.
Campus Recreation
Boise State offers Campus Recreation memberships to employees, providing access to the aquatics complex, climbing gym, outdoor rental center, fitness classes, and more.
Career Services
Career Services supports faculty and staff in helping students prepare for meaningful careers by providing curriculum, consultations, materials, and digital resources.
Children’s Center
Boise State’s Children’s Center offers quality child care for a limited number of students, faculty, and staff. The Center also hosts a free Baby and Me Support Group for parents and their infants, providing a great opportunity to connect with other families and learn about supportive resources.
Department of Public Safety
Boise State’s Department of Public Safety provides key resources to enhance campus safety, including:

- Bronco Alert System: Emergency notifications sent via email and text about urgent situations.
- Blue Light Emergency Phones: Over 70 phones across campus to quickly contact 911 or Public Safety.
- Rave Guardian App: A free safety app that lets you quickly call 911, request a security escort, or get assistance with jumpstarts and lockouts.
Dining Services
Boise State offers 20 dining options across 8 campus locations during the academic year, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-friendly choices like the “Delicious Without” station at Buster’s Kitchen. Meal Plans include a mix of meal swipes for dining halls and dining dollars for use at campus favorites like Chick-fil-A, Subway, and Panda Express. Meal plans are also often more affordable than dining off campus.
Employee Housing Assistance Program
The Employee Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) provides access to affordable housing options (limited to housing availability). The university owns several homes near campus that are available for short- or long-term leases. In addition, Idaho Power offers resources and programs to help employees manage energy costs.
Family Caregiver Navigator
The Family Caregiver Navigator (FCN) provides free, remote resources and support to caregivers throughout Idaho.
Games Center
The Games Center offers bowling, billiards, air hockey, ping pong, foosball, and board games. Boise State employees with a valid Bronco Card receive discounted rates.
Health Services
Boise State’s Health Services offers comprehensive medical and wellness care to students and employees. Most insurance plans, including Boise State’s, are accepted for both in-person and telehealth visits.
Information Desk
The Information Desk provides quick assistance with campus services and resources, including dining plans, lost and found services, campus directions, Bronco Card pickup, and general information about Boise State and the surrounding community.
PACE Program
Boise State employees have access to additional professional development opportunities through the PACE program. Offerings include a variety of workshops, courses, and certifications designed to support career growth and skill enhancement.
MakerLab
The MakerLab is a hands-on creative space available to Boise State students, staff, and faculty. It provides access to tools such as 3D printers, sewing machines, and laser cutters, supporting innovation, prototyping, and collaboration.
Morrison Center
Boise State students, faculty, staff, and emeriti are eligible for one free ticket to select student performances at the Morrison Center with a valid Bronco Card. Free tickets must be picked up in advance at the Morrison Center Box Office during regular business hours.
Release Times
- Development Release Time: Boise State offers employees four hours per month to participate in development and training activities during normal business hours, with supervisor approval.
- Wellness Release Time: Boise State offers employees up to 60 minutes per week of health and wellness release time during normal business hours, with supervisor approval.
