Let’s Light Up Science

What is the ambitious goal of this project?

The goal of this project is to design and employ fluorescent and luminescent biomolecules in innovative ways. We are currently using molecular structure-based design and ensemble analysis to envision applications for these fluorescent biomolecules to detect viral RNA and RNA remodeling in human health.

Experience Gained

Students can expect faculty and research group supported training with emphases in research activities; including developing “design thinking” and scientific method for laboratory experiment preparation, data analysis, and critical thinking.

Methodologies/skills used to achieve project goals:

  • bioinformatics
  • UNIX
  • scripting (e.g. python)
  • professional development and portfolio preparation (e.g. LinkedIn, ICUR meeting, etc.).
  • science communication and outreach
  • data visualization and application of elements of art and principles of design to scientific themes.ign/implementation
  • 3D design
  • coding and coding software
  • design thinking
  • laboratory testing
  • qualitative research methods
  • quantitative research methods
  • writing
