Accessible PDF Forms

In collaboration with the Idaho Digital Accessibility Consortium (IDAC), the Boise State web accessibility team co-presented two training series on accessible PDFs. One is specific to created accessible forms, another is about humanizing the accessibility checker in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Both are available to Boise State employees through the IDAC Canvas site.

Accessible PDF Forms - Follow these steps to create accessible, electronic, fillable PDF forms that work for everyone

The series introduces the workflow process to create an accessible PDF form. Participants are invited to build a form, from scratch, working alongside the presenters during the 8 sessions.

The completed form is designed to be printed or completed electronically and is accessible to assistive technology users.

  1. Considerations for what to ask, how to ask it and how to organize questions
  2. How to add structure to the content of the source document and convert to PDF
  3. Preparing the newly converted PDF and adding form fields
  4. How to craft the text of tool tips
  5. Using the Reading Order Tool and understanding tags
  6. Considerations for Electronic Signature Fields
  7. Using the Accessibility Checker and publishing a form
  8. Packaging Your Deliverables

Humanizing the Accessibility Checker

In the book, A Web for Everyone by Whitney Quesenbery, readers are introduced to eight user personas for accessible user experience.
